Aira Shiratori is an idol otaku through and through. It’s safe to say if anyone was the authority on idols for his world, it would likely be him. Idols have meant the world to Aira for a very long time- at least relatively given his young age. He’s not the most confident person- he likes his privacy and space, and can be snippy when people infringe on his space or mess with his treasures without either asking first or being careful about it. For a large part of his childhood he was considered different and sometimes ostracized or picked on for being a quarter french but not being, well… french in any sense aside from physical. This treatment led to an acute feeling of self-consciousness and inadequacy that he still hasn’t shaken. To some extent he gave up on making friends because it felt as though everyone would leave him eventually. He finds it difficult to be vulnerable with and rely on others for this reason, and has only recently been trying to let his unitmates and a handful of other people in as friends.
His love of idols partially comes from this. Watching them on stage made him smile and forget his problems for a while. It was freeing for him, and being an idol became something of a dream of his– some idols for as lovely as they were on stage didn't treat their fans well, so his dream became "being an idol that gives love back to his fans" the thought being that since he's also an idol fan, that he would understand them.
All that said, he's still a teenage boy, and one that isn't especially remarkable at that. He has to work for things harder than others with natural talent. He gets envious of those that improve quickly, and tends to be self-deprecating about his failings, letting them haunt him more than he should. He's learned not to consider the success of others as a threat or challenge directed at him, or something to measure himself to because he does have his own strengths, but it's hard to stay thinking positively on that front. He slips into old habits at times.

Lazy bullet list of main story, go
♡ Grew up in a fairly normal middle class family, presumably as an only child.
♡ Was judged for his appearance and took it to heart when he didn't meet others' expectations even if they had no reason to expect that from him. This eventually lead him to become disillusioned with the idea of friends.
♡ Became interested in idols at some point between elementary and middle school and latched onto them because they were a source of comfort.
Because of this attachment he decided to go against his parents' wishes and enroll into Yumenosaki Academy once he was able to, enrolling into the idol course and thus being able to supplement his general studies with Idol work.
♡ While he never did an official live, he spent this time working very hard at the jobs around Ensemble Square to get more experience with idol activities as well as pouring excessive amounts of time into his idol studies. His regular class grades took a hit for this determination, but he viewed it as okay at the time since he wouldn't really need to know those things as an idol.
♡ Despite his hard work he wasn't doing very well as an Idol. So much so that when ES was facing budget issues and needed the production companies that made it up to lay off some of the idols they managed, Aira was among the four that StarPro chose for the chopping block.
♡ That said, Eichi Tenshouin is a stubborn, manipulative piece of shit. He didn't want to just let go of four people without giving them a chance to pull themselves out of it, though he didn't particularly give them a choice in the matter either, Forming a unit of the four underachievers henceforth known as ALKALOID- A name that could either mean medicine or poison, and that implied they were only idol-like. A very insulting name if someone looked into it too much.
♡ Their task was to become productive and popular enough idols to have enough L$ (a currency specific to ES that builds in relation to an idol or unit's popularity/productivity) to participate in a Live Event known as MDM and do well. The only problem is that forming their unit and all of the materials they were given to work with left them with about 1,000,000 L$ in debt which would be converted into yen and charged four ways if they failed.
♡ Aira's familiarity with how idol work is made him fairly useful early in their efforts, able to teach Hiiro how to effectively do idol work since he didn't know much about idols at all. The two of them had to make up for Tatsumi and Mayoi being largely unable to manage the work due to their respective conditions.
♡ Alkaloid found it difficult to get jobs over time due to another unit in a similar position: Crazy:B (The leader of which was actually Rinne, Hiiro's brother) acting out and causing trouble, with people assuming or fearing that Alkaloid would be similar. Their break came in the form of a RhythLin unit called Switch asking them specifically to join them in their Live coming up called Ullambana/Bon Festival. Switch wanted to give all of the idols who were suffering from the layoffs a chance to get back on their feet, but afterwards, Alkaloid was one of the only ones to not walk away from being idols. The ones who left did however decide to transfer all their remaining L$ to Alkaloid though, which gave them enough to handle their debt, but not quite enough to participate in the MDM.
♡ Just after the Ullambana, Rinne went to Alkaloid with a proposal to collaborate on a Live called Idol Royale. Ultimately this turned out to be a trick of sorts involving Rinne smack talking a number of other units to make them mad enough to pay excessive amounts of L$ to come on stage and defend themselves, turning the way the Live worked into something akin to gambling -- which disgusted Aira.
♡ In light of the damage Crazy:B caused and the subsequent threat they posed, the cost to perform in the MDM was lowered to try and bring in idols to perform, and a Live to try and coax people back into coming was established where ALKALOID was set to perform as the "Protagonists". At this "MDM's Eve" The manager of Crazy:B's production company intended to clear Crazy:B's name by implying they were blackmailed into everything they did.
♡ However, Rinne had other plans. He knew that the fans wouldn't be satisfied by that, and set himself up as a scapegoat for the other members. This resulted in Rinne getting run out of the venue by an angry mob throwing things at him. He was only spared when another idol began performing outside to distract them as something of a favor to ALKALOID, as Hiiro took off after his brother.
♡ When Hiiro tracked down his brother, he was promptly disowned to spare Hiiro the stifling nature of living in their village, and it was Rinne's way of severing Hiiro's chains both to their family and the bad name he's made for them outside of the village. As much as Rinne intended it as a kindness, Hiiro who had only known their village and his purpose had the rug pulled out from under him.
♡ Aira tracked him down, but it was late by that point. They had an emotional talk before returning to the dorm, Hiiro refusing to let Aira go the whole time. During this time, Aira received a call from Kohaku Oukawa, another member of Crazy:B that he felt a connection with and wants to be friends with. He invited Kohaku to the dorm to talk, but he never showed up.
♡ Later on during a midnight chat with Hiiro he received another message, this one from an old online friend, which is when he finally pieced together that Kohaku was one of his online friends from a long time ago.
♡ From there ALKALOID went on to perform at the MDM, but not before a long winded explanation of their intention to perform with Crazy:B if they are allowed to succeed at the Live. This ultimately does work and they officially save themselves from being fired, but not without complications along the way.
♡ After the MDM sometime just before Autumn, ALKALOID are given a unique opportunity to plan their own Live in a special part of ES, and are given near complete creative freedom. Aira who is still suffering from his self-confidence issues and recently made a slight mistake in a live is too nervous to contribute much until Tatsumi stumbles across some of his old designs for Solo Lives that he designed when he was younger. Specifically one called Feather Touch. Tatsumi assured him that he has his own strengths and that it's not a competition. That they can support each other, which Aira took to heart and is attempting to learn from.
♡ Similarly he learned the hard way when he was put into a Shuffle Unit that his habit of viewing himself as lesser than other more famous idols is extremely unhealthy and bad for both himself and those he interacts with, so he's worked on learning from that experience as well, balancing his identity as an Idol fan and a proper Idol in his own right.

backtagging: yes
fourthwalling: no/ask first
mindreading: ask first
brackets/prose: I can do either. I default to whatever my partner is doing
timezone: ETZ. I do most of my posting in the evening but I can swing early posts sometimes.
shipping: Oh boy... yes and yes, but I will put it out there that my OTP is Hiiai in whatever form I can get it. I'm open to crosscanon ships if there's chemistry and a Hiiro is not present, and other canon ships I am cautiously interested in would be KohaAi or any combo with him and another member of Branco, but they'd be very dependent on the situation. He takes some time to warm up to people so others are more than welcome to try with him too, if that's your cup of tea, I've got my prefs but I'm open to trying things if it's brought up to me. I'm a shipping fiend at the end of the day
That said, due to bad RP experiences I absolutely cannot play Poly ships, please do not ask me to do so, as it is a trigger now.
flirting/crushes: Totally chill with others developing little crushes or flirting with him even if it's unrequited as long as it's not made a big deal of if he doesn't return the feelings. He's an idol! I expect some level of parasocial stuff to come with that.
physical affection/touch: Generally speaking he's open to it. He's a very affectionate person at his core, but it could take time for him to warm up to a point where he would be comfortable with unprompted affection since he does get embarrassed in public easily. He's also incredibly jumpy so if you catch him off guard he will jump and get annoyed.
death/killing: not opposed to it if we're going for drama or it's part of a meme, but details should be discussed in advance.
fighting/physical violence: Go for it, don't even have to ask. He is a little marshmallow and you will win if you try to fight him. I don't envy your character the retribution that his friends will exact on you.
triggers: Canon-wise I think the only possible triggers for Aira specifically is that he can have some creepy tendencies towards other Idols, but he's been curbing that a lot lately. As for triggers I have, I already touched on the polyship one, but I'm also triggered by zombies, especially descriptions or pictures of them and the gore that goes along with it. Needles and eye trauma are also notable, and I'd also like to avoid non-con or dub-con unless it's very well plotted out first.
